The Children’s Bread - Healing and Freedom Belong to Us!

Bread in the Bible:

"And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance(manna), as fine as frost on the ground. So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was." (Exodus 16:14,15 NKJV)

"But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”  (Mark 7:27 NKJV)

"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." (Gal 3:13,14 NKJV)

"And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise."  (Gal 3:29 NKJV)

"I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”  (John 16:51 NKJV)

Is "Healing" an Enigma?

Many times, people have sought healing for a long period of time, and have given up, thinking that healing is too difficult, some sort of enigma that they cannot unlock.  I have been stuck there before.  But the Bible tells us that healing is simple, that we can partake of healing as children of God, as we grow in the knowledge of God and His Word.  Both religion and deception of the enemy present healing as some "inconsistent enigma" that might or might not happen.  But Jesus healed everyone who came to Him, and He never changes (Malachi 3:6).  As you read the stories in the Bible, healing almost seemed like an afterthought to Him, no different than feeding bread and fish to a multitude.  Healing is normal to Jesus!

As a child, growing up in Texas, I always looked forward to family gatherings where everybody cooked something and we all joined together at my grandparent’s house and enjoyed a feast.  Sometimes it was on Thanksgiving, and sometimes just at random, but the table and countertops would be full of savory dishes ranging from meats, vegetables, gravy,

chocolate cake, cherry, coconut cream and chocolate meringue pies, and warm, homemade yeast rolls.  My family would always compliment the roast, turkey, or the pie.  Occasionally someone would praise the green beans or the chili. No one ever glorified the bread, but it was always there, and we would not have imagined having a family feast, or even regular, at-home dinners with our family, without bread.  It was considered a staple.

All throughout the Bible God used bread as an illustration of His supply for our needs. In Exodus 23:25, God told the Israelites that they would serve Him and He would bless their bread and water and take ALL sickness from their midst.

In Exodus 16, God rained down "manna," bread from Heaven, to feed and sustain the Israelites after delivering them out of Egyptian slavery, while traveling toward His Promised Land.  Jesus preached that He is the ‘Bread from Heaven’ come down to give us life from God.

Then in Galatians 3, Paul writes that we who are believers in Jesus are the children of Abraham, redeemed from the curse of the Law (Deut. 28:61) which included spiritual death, sickness, poverty, anxiety/depression, and being in bondage to enemies.  We are the children of promise through faith in Jesus’ completed work at the Cross.

In Mark 7, a Syrophoenician woman, from a nation that was not included in the promises of God to the children of Abraham (Israel), came seeking deliverance for her daughter from a demonic spirit.  If you read about Phoenicia you immediately see that idol worship ran rampant, the God of Israel was completely unknown, and they were certainly strangers to God’s Covenant. He helped her move from using manipulative words to try to get a healing, into worshipping Him as Lord and Savior to receive total salvation and healing. How merciful is our God!

Jesus made a profound statement: Freedom from demonic bondage, including healing, is the children’s bread Galatians 3:29 tells us that believers in Jesus are children of God.  That means healing and freedom from all the enemy’s power BELONGS to US!  Acts 10:38 says, "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth Who went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil."  We see from this passage then that all sickness is oppression from the devil.

God could have called healing and deliverance from all the enemy's power the children's "filet mignon," or $200 Beluga caviar, in other words, hard to get to, expensive, rare. And yet He calls healing, bread, because He considers it a common staple, not glorious, just basic to life and godliness. While modern medicine (and ancient medicine according to the woman healed from the issue of blood) charges exorbitant amounts of money for medical procedures and drugs, with out being able to even promise improvement.

I often have spoken with individuals who spent huge amounts of money on a procedure or drug, only to find that the side effects and end result were worse than the original attack against their health. God's healing, on the other hand, comes not through money, but through simple faith in God's Word.

Healing did not come cheaply, since it cost Jesus the torture of Roman scourging with the whip of pieces of sharp metal, glass and bone that tore into his flesh, and a horrible, prolonged suffering and death by the death penalty of that day, crucifixion.  However, all God asks us to do is live in relationship with Christ and abide in His Word, believing and speaking His promises over our body, and healing will grow up and bear fruit over time, or in some cases immediately.

Friends, healing is considered simple, normal, and basic by our Heavenly Father.  This ought to bring us great expectation for healing from any kind of sickness, since Jesus consistently healed everyone who came to Him.  Jesus often told His disciples to go and preach the Kingdom of God, and make sure to heal the sick.

Jesus clearly demonstrated over and over that He considered healing and deliverance from demonic oppression (anxiety, depression, fear, anger/bitterness, addictions) basic to our life, by healing and delivering huge crowds, ministering for long periods, until the last person was free.  That means if you would have been there with sickness or demonic oppression, you would have gone home free.

One of My Testimonies

I remember years ago, in my twenties, I had injured my right elbow while working out, and for over a year it hurt every time I moved my arm.  I am right-handed, and could barely shake hands with someone without wincing in pain.  I prayed, confessed healing Bible verses, but it only became worse.  I did not have health insurance at the time, and I did not have the extra money to get an x-ray to find out what the problem was, perhaps a torn ligament, but I could not use my arm without significant pain.  One day, while working as a waiter in a restaurant while interning at a church, I had to sweep up (with my uninjured left arm) a huge mess of crackers, M&M’s and crumbs on the floor that a family with a toddler left behind.

In my humble circumstances, in pain, not making very much money, everything in me wanted to complain inside, but instead, all of the sudden by the leading of the Holy Spirit, I began to thank the Lord.  Not just for healing, but for Who He is, all He had done for me at the cross, even that I had the privilege to serve Him by working in a buffet restaurant, bussing my own tables, wearing an awkward apron dirty with other people’s food and drinks.  I thanked Him that His healing was working in that elbow even though it felt like it was only getting worse. I just got lost thanking Him.   As I thanked Him, I suddenly had the impression to use my injured arm to sweep with.  Without thinking, I put the small broom in my right hand and swept.  Oh it hurt! But somehow I had gotten so caught up thanking Him for my healing bread, that the pain did not seem to register with my mind.  My spiritual focus on and connection to the Healer was overriding my physical senses.  And sometime in that twenty minutes, I realized that all pain was gone from my elbow!  Jesus is our faithful Healer!  God is a good, good Father!  He gives us our DAILY BREAD (from the Lord’s prayer) with a smile on His face.  All He needs is for us to move upon those seemingly insignificant impressions of the mighty Holy Spirit and get lost in love with Him.  Out of that intimacy with the Healer, faith impressions that might seem odd will come to our spirit (like spitting in the dirt and putting clay on the blind man’s eyes and telling him to go find the pool of Siloam and wash it off).  When we step out and act on those impressions from the Holy Spirit, across the barrier of fearful thoughts, healing manifests!  Simple, daily, basic staple, divine health and healing that Jesus paid for every child of God to enjoy while we live in His abundance and fulfill His Kingdom calling, in a supernaturally healthy body.  Healing is our daily bread!  Praise God forever!

Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.  That means Jesus who healed them all, while He was on the earth, considers your healing and deliverance from all pain, sickness, injury, or demonic influence a simple, basic necessity for life and godliness.  Healing is not some, impossible to find, "holy grail!" It is as simple as the rolls accompanying your Sunday dinner.  Go ahead and thank God for His bread, and believe that His broken body paid for yours to be fixed, and enjoy your healing rights purchased for you at the Cross by Jesus because you are His beloved child.
